Good Turn - Jefferson Barracks, May 29th

The Gravois Trails Scouts place an American flag on the grave of each American veteran buried at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. This is a great way for the boys (and all of us) to show respect for the individuals who have served our country.  We meet as a pack on the grounds of the National Guard base near Jefferson Barracks. Please meet under the Oak tree near the guard shack at the entrance of the base. This is a guard base; all adults are required to have a picture ID with them. Please check in with the pack no later than 11:30 a.m.  Do not go into the buildings there; once we have a head count of scouts, we will pick up our assigned location, our pack ribbons and patches for the boys that attend.

 

Please bring something to entertain the boys before the ceremony at 12:30. (Keep in mind that you will have to carry it with you for the day.)  A map is included at the end of this newsletter.  Scouts should be in class A uniform.  Please make sure you are prepared for warm weather; including water bottle(s), sunscreen and umbrellas can be helpful to create shade.  Plan to come early; traffic tends to be challenging.

Jefferson Barracks Historical Hike

Jefferson Barracks is a Historical treasure right in our backyard. Many of us don't have the first clue about its history and relevance to our Nation's past. We will meet at 1:30 pm in the cemetery at the Circle Drive for the Pack hike.  We will discuss the history of the cemetery, proper behavior during the Memorial Day Good Turn, where to go if you get separated from the pack, and walk the procession route so parents and scouts alike are familiar with area, process, and history for Memorial Day Good Turn. The hike is about 1 mile on cemetery pavement and will last approximately 45 minutes. This hike could count towards an achievement for your particular rank.

Crossover/BBQ

 

Who: ALL pack 826 scouts and families

What: Our April Pack meeting

Where: Beaumont Scout Reservation (Cub World)

When: Saturday, April 23, 5 to 8 p.m.

Cost: Free

Entertainment: The playground, the maze and the pirate ship, a large field for ball games/frisbees and a creek that the boys love to explore.

Dinner: Pack Pot Luck:  The pack will provide hamburgers, bratwursts and hot dogs. We are asking each family to bring a dish to share. If you want to bring a favorite dish outside your scout rank’s category, please feel free to do so.

  • Tigers – Snacks/Appetizers/Veggies/Fruits
  • Wolves –Side Dishes (Casseroles, Pastas, etc.)
  • Bears Chips & Dips 
  • Jr. Webelos – Desserts

What else do we need to bring?

  • Your drinks (Scout Property = no alcohol)
  • Lawn chairs or blanket
  • Your Potluck food to share
  • Change of clothes, shoes and towel for the boys (creek = wet, dirty kids). Bring their uniform shirts to wear for the graduation ceremony.  Dress for the weather!!
  • Balls/Frisbees, etc. if you want

 

The Graduation Ceremony:

Ceremony will start around 7:00 p.m., at dusk. Please bring enough layers/coats so you are warm after dark. We will proceed in silence to the Cub Scout Council Ring for our graduation to the next rank. Graduation and rank is based on age. It is not based on whether or not you completed all of the achievements for the “Rank Award.”

Come join us at Lindbergh High School auditorium to watch The Sandlot.  Bring the entire family!  No food and drinks are allowed in the auditorium but will be available during intermission in the lobby.

Blue and Gold Banquet - Friday, February 26th, 6 pm

Blue & Gold is our annual awards banquet. It will be held on Friday, February 26, at 6 p.m. at Lindbergh High School Cafeteria. This banquet is held to honor and award your hard work during the scouting year. We will hand out awards, have a wonderful meal and then celebrate as our Senior Webelos cross over to Boy Scouts!

Cake Decorating Contest:
Calling all bakers...This is an opportunity to show off your culinary skills! Scouts, grab a parent and get creative in the kitchen to help support the Blue and Gold Banquet. This year we would like Scouts and their families to participate in our cake decorating contest. Get creative, bake and decorate a cake, and bring it to the Blue and Gold Banquet. Cakes will be judged in 3 categories...1. Best Scout Theme, 2. Most Creative, 3. Best Decorated. Once the judging is complete, the cakes will be used as dessert for the banquet. So, put on your apron, grab the flour and sugar, and come prepared to win!

This activity should be led by the Scout with assistance from a parent. (This is not a contest for the parents!) Please indicate on the RSVP form if your son will be participating. We are using the cakes as dessert and want to make sure we have enough for everyone. Participating in the cake contest can meet one of the requirements for scout advancement. For example, if you are a Bear, it can count toward one of the requirements for the Bear Picnic Basket. January Pack Meeting - Friday, January 15th, 7 pm

PWD weigh in will be on Wednesday, January 13th from 7 to 8 pm at Kennerly.  Race night is on Friday, January 15th starting at 7 pm at Kennerly.  We will have a Pit Stop concession stand! Come on over for pizza, drinks and other snacks.  All are reasonably priced and very yummy!   This is a fundraiser to help offset the costs associated with the upcoming Blue and Gold.

Dwight Lakin is running our “Pit Stop” and will need helpers.  There will be a sign up sheet available at the Pinewood Derby race where you can volunteer. 

Yearbook pictures will also be taken before each rank’s scheduled race time by Mark Schraut. 

Pinewood Derby Workshops

David Blackwood will be hosting a workshop for all scouts and parents to use the Lindbergh High School shop class equipment to help shape their PWD cars.  The workshop does have heavy equipment and requires an adult to be with the child at all times.  On December 14th, 15th and 17th, the event will be open to all ranks from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Sandpaper and tools will be available for use.  See the December newsletter for directions to the shop class.

December Pack Meeting - Sunday, December 6th, 5 pm

5:00 pm: Meet at Garden Villas South. We’ll sing Christmas Carols for the residents. After we sing, the scouts will hand out the cards made at the November pack meeting.  Please have scouts in class A uniform. 
 
5:30 to 10:30 pm: Meet at the Arnold Rec Center (1695 Missouri State Road).  Pizza and swimming party!  All scouts must attend with a parent/responsible adult!  Swimming will be available from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  Pizza will be provided but please bring drinks for your family.
 
 

November Pack Meeting - Friday, November 20th, 7 pm

The November pack meeting will include making crafts and cards for the residents of the Garden Villas which we will distribute to them for Christmas.  The meeting will also include the most talked about pack activity...Turkey Bowling!!  There will be other activities as well.  Please join us on Friday, November 20th at 7 pm at Kennerly.

Scouting For Food - November 14th and 21st

This is the Pack's first big service project of the school year and an annual tradition in St. Louis.  Scouting For Food will be on Saturday, November 14th and 21st.  Meet up at Kennerly on Nov. 14 at 9 am to distribute bags.  On Nov. 21, meet at Kennerly at noon to pick up the donated food.  Participation on both days is welcome but if you can only come on one of the Saturday's, please join us!
